About Sense Textile

Sense Textile BV is an innovative producer of medical devices based on high-tech medical textiles for institutional and homecare. All our products have been extensively tested at international institutes, healthcare institutions and are CE MDR registered.

Sense Textile has been founded in August 2013 to meet the clear and identified needs within institutional care and home care for a better patient-bed interface with less friction and a better microclimate, resulting in more self-reliance of residents and patients, more comfort, better skin condition, lower healthcare costs and reduced care dependency.

Current solutions on the market do not adequately respond to this and it is precisely in this area that significant improvements are possible with the use of Sense Textile’s medical textile technology. The founders and developers, Grex Goijarts and Steven Schilthuizen, have invested more than 7 years in scientific research, materials development and testing, to achieve the current status of market acceptance and repeat orders of our innovative textile products for the healthcare and health sector.

In recent decades, research into medical devices for the prevention and healing of pressure ulcers and skin problems has mainly focused on reducing and distributing of pressure on the skin of the patients. Sense Textile’s high-tech textile innovation significantly improves the microclimate of the skin compared to the traditional bed sheets. Sense Textile’s breathable textile, reduces also shear and friction forces and at the same time prevents pressure points through the ability to move more in bed and the elasticity, body contour following properties of the textile material.

Secondly, with these important aspects we are able to improve patient comfort and quality of life and relieve the burden of care for nurses. People who depend on institutional and home care sleep better, have a better skin condition, are less dependent on care and therefore often need less intensive care and help. We also foresee great potential for consumer health and wellness applications.

Sense Textile has developed a 3D textile material that replaces the traditional cotton sheet and is smooth and soft enough to sleep on directly, while also acting as a ventilation mattress and transfer layer. The elastic material with micro and super micro smart fibers and monofilament fibers can easily adapt to the shape and body of the user, can absorb, transport and evaporate perspiration and body fluids.

These adaptive functions are the key elements of our smart textile materials. Specific knitting patterns and structures have been created via CAD/CAM software and 3D imaging techniques to realize the complex requirements and functionalities of the smart textile system.
